1991 FORD SIERRA COSWORTH

The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was the the first Ford production car to carry the "Cosworth" name. It was first on sale in 1986.  The performance of the car was very high.  It had a top speed of 150mph.  As you can imagine this caused quite a sensation.  5,000 of those cars were built with 500 converted in to the RS500.  Externally the RS500 looked identical to the Sierra RS Cosworth except for a few cosmetic changes to the body.  The RS500 was to dominate in motor sport for another 3 years to come.  Ford then embarked to re-develop the Sierra Cosworth by producing a 4-door saloon concept car.  This went on sale in 1988 and the four wheel drive in 1990.  This car didn't have wheel arch extensions and bonnet louvres but it was still exceptionally fast.  It became known as the "Sapphire" Cosworth of 1988 and 1989.
